All good things come to an end.

Mon 14 Mar 2016 -  Holiday day 5,  Kep to Phnom Penh

The Vietnam border is only 20km from Kep and we had looked at making the crossing there but the onward travel through the Mekong delta is far from straightforward and would have taken several valuable days so we opted to take the ‘express’ bus back to Phnom Penh today and the direct bus through to Saigon tomorrow.

As the bus didn’t leave until 1445 we had the morning to enjoy the pool area for one last time then said our fond farewells to the lovely Palm House and boarded our tuk tuk for the ride into Kampot, retracing our scooter ride of yesterday. Having seen the helmets we’d worn in reception we suspect the scooter was owned by one of the staff, who made $8 from us - good for him!

Arriving at the bus station in plenty of time Glenn set off to find the bakery/cafe we’d found at our previous visit, to stock up on goodies for the next two day’s bus rides.

Back in Phnom Penh, and now familiar with the area, we bargained hard for a tuk tuk to our hotel the La Librairie. Once checked in we satisfied our western yearnings by ordering a tasty burger and chips, potentially the last for a while, at the restaurant. Then it was off to bed for a early night in preparation for tomorrow’s 0600 start.
