Saturday 12th December - Tihoi to Turangi
Today we went on our way to Turangi, the gateway to the Tongariro National Park, in anticipation of a few days great tramping, one being the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a "must do". We left Tihoi in drizzle and the mists and rain increased as we arrived in Turangi. We popped in to the Tourist Centre to check out the mountain weather forecast for the next four days we are here. Not good. Doesn't look likely we will be up any tracks until Monday at the earliest due to snow at 1500m (isn't it Summer here???!) and the summit is over 2200m.
