...but sometimes they’re not

Sat 16 Apr 2016 - Ceylan Lodge planning day

We had a good night’s sleep and a tasty breakfast. Knowing we were only going to transfer to another hotel we took our time and dropped Niluk an email about Frederick’s behaviour last night. Then we dropped Frederick a text to ask him to collect us and sat on the porch with a pot of tea waiting - for quite a while.

Eventually Frederick arrived but was still in a grumpy mood and very annoyed about how we’d complained to his boss, Niluk. Glenn tried to reason with him but he was not prepared to listen so we shut up and let him rant as he drove us the short distance to the Ceylan Lodge hotel we’d booked that morning. When we arrived Frederick stated that perhaps we should have a different driver and by now we agreed so we said goodbye, checked into our plush air conditioned room, contacted Niluk to find us another driver and then spent much of the day planning the rest this leg and the start of South Africa, which is only two weeks away. This also provided time to call back home and catch up with the family, sort out admin and for Glenn to keep up to date with our Tripadvisor reviews, which we are hooked on completing.

During the afternoon Glenn took a wander into town and came back with milk, biscuits and chocolate from a supermarket. Yvonne remembered why she had married Glenn and quickly set about making a cup of tea and devouring the choc chip cookies.

When the sun set we went down to the pool for a refreshing dip, enjoying the cool of the water and the rather hypnotic effect of the colour changing LEDs set in the base.

With the pool closed we changed and had a great Sri Lankan curry with two large bottles of the local Lion beer then settled back into our room to watch Man U scrape out a 1-0 result against Villa that relegated them to the Championship.

So all in all, not much to report today but sometimes we need days like this to catch up with the planning and booking of the next stages.
